Obituary for Carl Dennis Sheats

Carl Dennis “Boogie Woogie” Sheats began life’s journey on April 24, 1947 to the parentage of the late Mr. John Sheats and the late Mrs. Ada Sheats of Atlanta, Georgia. Carl was the second of three children born to this union.

During his life’s journey on earth, he confessed Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and united with the Springfield Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

Carl was educated in the Chicago Public Schools System, and attended John Marshall High School. After high school, Carl went on to get a certification in counseling. During his time in Illinois, Carl also began working as a self-employed carpenter.

After returning to Atlanta in 1971, Carl met the love of his life, Diann Farris. To this union two children were born; Leedteena Farris, and Glisa Farris.

Carl was preceded in death by his brother, John Sheats; sister, Roslyn Sheats; aunts, Minnie Evans, and Betty Ann Jackson; uncles, Rev. Andrew Hendrix Jr., Roscoe Hendrix, Early Hendrix, Thomas Hendrix, and Walter Hendrix; and nephew, Butch Sheats.

Carl leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Diann; daughters, Glisa, and Leedteena; son-in-law, Dale Hicks; grandchildren, Shermaine, Timothy, Tytianna, Deondre, Michelle, and Arlisa; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Glory Harris, Brenda, Debbie,and Jackie Sheats of IL; nieces, Sherry, and Roslyn; special aunt, Sally Phillips; special uncle, Willie Hendrix (Sharon); special friends, Herman and Betty Fountain, Faye Warren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 26th, 2017, 2:00 pm, at Herschel Thornton Mortuary, 3346 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30331.

Public Viewing will be Friday, August 25th, 2017, 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Herschel Thornton Mortuary.
